It is situated right next to the border with Poland and the city of Świnoujście (''Swinemünde'' in German), both are freely connected by a street and by of beach promenade. Two major attractions include the famous "Seebrücke" or Pier, and a railway museum. Ahlbeck has scenic houses and mansions in the German Gründerzeit style of resort architecture. The bathing resort "Ostseetherme" is a popular tourist attraction.
